PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team is now 3-0 for the season after shutting out Union College 2-0 in their home opener Tuesday night at the Field House Complex.
The Cardinals took control of the game early scoring their first goal three minutes into the game.
Union failed to clear the ball out from in front of the net after junior midfielder
Sarah Bonner (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) got control off a cross and put it into a scramble.
Sophomore midfielder
Abigail Seamans (Diamond Point, N.Y. / Bolton Central) came in with a right footed strike from 12 yards out to boot the ball into the center of the net to put the Cardinals up 1-0.
The Dutchwomen outshot Plattsburgh State 10-7 in the first half.
The Cardinals struck again in the 63rd minute when junior midfielder
Delaney Dyer (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) fed freshman forward
Kirsten Villemaire (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown) the ball from midfield and Villemaire put it in back of the net from the corner of the 18 yard box.
The remainder of the game went scoreless but not for lack of trying. Plattsburgh State outshot Union in the second half 10-4.
Union's keeper made eight saves overall with five in the second half.
Graduate goalkeeper
Taylor Adams (Schenectady, N.Y./Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) earned her second shutout to move to 3-0 in the season after making five saves in the 90:00 minutes she played.
Villemaire recorded four shots on goal, junior forward
Katie Matott (Rouses Point, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton) had three, freshman forward
Allison Seidman (Commack, N.Y. / Commack) had two and Seamans had one.
Plattsburgh State travels to RPI on Saturday for a non-conference game at 7 p.m.
