PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team delivered a dominant performance on Senior Day, defeating Morrisville, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals remained unbeaten in conference play while scoring seven goals for the second consecutive game.
Plattsburgh wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, as senior forward Ellie Graney (Buffalo, N.Y./City Honors) opened the scoring in the ninth minute off assists from senior midfielder Sydney Myers (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Saranac) and senior forward Lilley Keyser (Keeseville, N.Y./AuSable Valley). Just 89 seconds later, senior forward Maria Mauro (Farmingdale, N.Y./Plainedge) doubled the Cardinals' lead, finishing a play set up by Myers and Graney to give Plattsburgh a 2-0 advantage.
The Cardinals carried their two-goal lead into halftime before breaking the game open early in the second half. Keyser scored in the 48th minute off an assist from fifth-year defender Alexis Patrick (Burnt Hills, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) before junior midfielder Leah Warren (Lisbon, N.Y./Lisbon) added another goal just 46 seconds later, finishing a pass from junior defender Amy Crowley (Wallkill, N.Y./Wallkill) to push the lead to 4-0.
Keyser struck again in the 54th minute, finishing a play assisted by Graney and Mauro to record her second goal of the afternoon. Myers then added her 10th goal of the season in the 70th minute before first-year forward Brynn Hite (Rouses Point, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton) capped the scoring in the 72nd minute off an assist from senior midfielder Brianna Merrill (Wallkill, N.Y./Wallkill Senior).
Plattsburgh controlled the contest from start to finish, outshooting Morrisville 43-2 while holding a 22-2 advantage in shots on goal and a 10-1 edge in corner kicks. The Cardinals' defense limited the Mustangs to just two shots, both coming in the second half, as Plattsburgh secured another shutout against a familiar conference opponent.
With the victory, Plattsburgh improves to 8-2-4 overall and 5-0-1 in SUNYAC play, while remaining unbeaten in league action. The Cardinals have now scored seven goals in back-to-back games and will return to action Wednesday at home against new SUNYAC member Cobleskill as they continue conference play.
