PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The third-seeded Plattsburgh State softball team begins its journey to win its third-ever conference title when it competes at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament from Thursday-Sunday, May 4-7, at SUNY Cortland's Dragon Field.
ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT: The SUNYAC Softball Tournament is a six-team, double-elimination tournament, with the winner earning the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Division III playoffs.
TICKET PRICING: Daily ticket prices are $5 for adults and $3 for children 5-12, while an all-session pass costs $10 for adults and $5 for children 5-12... Admission is free for all SUNYAC-member school students (with ID) and for children 4 and under.
No. 3 PLATTSBURGH STATE: Plattsburgh State will square off with No. 4 Buffalo State in its SUNYAC Tournament opener on Thursday, May 4, at 1 p.m... This marks the Cardinals' second SUNYAC Tournament appearance in as many seasons, as they qualified for the event as the No. 2 seed last year... Plattsburgh State is a two-time SUNYAC champion, having won the conference title in both 2006 and 2012... Among SUNYAC teams, the Cardinals rank fourth in field percentage (.957), fifth in batting average (.298) and fifth in ERA (3.05)... Offensively, Plattsburgh State is led by freshman
Haleigh Agans, who ranks second in the conference in RBI (32) and is tied for third in the conference in home runs (5)... Junior
Katie Pitkin leads the team and ranks fifth in the SUNYAC in ERA (2.50), while both Katie and her sister, Rhea, have nine wins on the year... Junior

No. 4 BUFFALO STATE: Buffalo State enters the SUNYAC Tournament as the No. 4 seed, earning that seed due in part to a 3-1 showing against Plattsburgh State and SUNY Potsdam to close out the regular season... The Bengals have won four SUNYAC titles in their history (1984, 1996, 2000 and 2009)... Among SUNYAC teams, Buffalo State is sixth in batting average (.275), ninth in ERA (4.79) and ninth in fielding percentage (.937)... Sophomore Cassandra O'Hern leads the SUNYAC in RBI (37), while senior Laura Crooks is third in the conference in batting average (.412)... Sophomore Allie Block has been one of the tougher pitchers in the conference to figure out, as she leads the SUNYAC in strikeouts by a wide margin with 146 and is tied for the conference lead in wins with 15... Buffalo State is led by sixth-year head coach Marie Curran-Headley, who is 110-107 at Buffalo State and 226-401 overall during her 15-year head coaching career that includes a nine-year tenure at the University at Buffalo.
No. 1 CORTLAND: Top-seeded Cortland has been the team to beat in recent years, having won seven of the past 10 SUNYAC titles... Cortland has 14 conference championships overall in its history (1986, 1988, 1990, 1992, 1998, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2016)... Among SUNYAC teams, Cortland is first in ERA (2.34), second in batting average (.317) and fifth in fielding percentage (.954)... Offensively, senior Niki Barbato leads the way with a .398 batting average that is tied for fourth in the SUNYAC, while junior Andrea Schoonmaker is tied for third in the conference in runs scored (31)... Senior Jamie Lachall leads the SUNYAC in ERA (2.00), while sophomore Sam Van Dorn is second in the conference in saves (3)... Twenty-third-year head coach Julie Lenhart is 764-290-2 across her storied tenure at Cortland, and she is 884-377-2 overall for her career, which includes a five-year stint at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.
No. 2 OSWEGO: Oswego returns to the SUNYAC Tournament for the first time since 2013... During that 2013 SUNYAC Tournament, the Lakers upset top-seeded The College at Brockport in the first game of the tournament, winning, 9-0, in five innings... Oswego is in search of its first-ever SUNYAC title... Among SUNYAC teams, Oswego is tied for first in the SUNYAC in fielding percentage (.965) and ranks second in ERA (2.75) and 10th in batting average (.247)... The Lakers are led by the dual-threat freshman, Rebecca Vilchez, who owns a 2.10 ERA and is 11-8 while boasting a .276 batting average... Vilchez ranks second in the SUNYAC in ERA while ranking third in the conference in wins... She also is tied for third in the SUNYAC in saves (2)... The Lakers are led by second-year head coach Abby Martin, who is 30-35 for her career.
No. 5 NEW PALTZ: New Paltz is making its second consecutive SUNYAC Tournament appearance and is in search of its first-ever SUNYAC title... The Hawks have not won a game in the SUNYAC Tournament since beating Oswego, 8-0, in 2008... Among SUNYAC teams, New Paltz is third in fielding percentage (.961), fourth in ERA (2.95) and ninth in batting average (.251)... Offensively, the Hawks are led by senior Fallon Spriggs, whose 15 stolen bases are tops in the SUNYAC... Junior Lauren Cappello has been the Hawks' ace in the circle, as she is tied for the SUNYAC lead in wins while ranking among the conference leaders in strikeouts (99, second) and ERA (2.36, third)... The Hawks are guided by first-year head coach Samantha Miller, who is 18-18 in her inaugural season so far.
No. 6 ONEONTA: Oneonta is making its fourth straight SUNYAC Tournament appearance... The Red Dragons enter the tournament as four-time SUNYAC champions, having won the title in 1999, 2001, 2004 and, most recently, in 2014... Among SUNYAC teams, the Red Dragons lead the conference in batting average (.327) while ranking sixth in ERA (3.17) and fielding percentage (.951)... Sophomore Dana Del Genio paces the Red Dragon bats with a .415 batting average that ranks second in the conference... Both Delgenio and senior Katie O'Gorman are among the SUNYAC leaders in RBI with 28 and 26, respectively... Senior pitcher Sabrina DeAngelis has been Oneonta workhorse in the circle, as she is tied for fourth in the SUNYAC in wins (10) and leads the team in ERA (2.57) and strikeouts (66)... Fourth-year head coach Sara Headley is 99-54 in her career at Oneonta and 313-302-1 throughout her 14-year head-coaching career... She led Mercyhurst University from 2004-13.
