Box Score PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team captured its fourth-straight win with a come from behind victory over Middlebury 2-1 in double overtime.
Middlebury came out Tuesday night ready to play, scoring in the eighth minute to make it 1-0.
Panther's Katherine Hobbs passed it to Hannah Robinson inside the box on the left side. Robinson would take one touch and then send the ball far post past a sprawled out Cardinals goalkeeper,
Nichole Gibson.
After the opening goal by Middlebury both teams settled in as possession and shots were at a premium throughout the rest of the first half.
The second half would belong to the Cardinals as they outshot Middlebury 7-2.
The Cardinals had a chance to score when
Anissa Hartmann sent a pass to
Madeline Saccocio across the box that left Saccocio one-on-one with Panthers goalie Kate Reinmuth. Reinmuth came off the goal line to cut of the angle and make a pointblank save to keep Middlebury up 1-0.
With the momentum building Plattsburgh State was finally able to crack the Panthers defense in the 73 minute on a penalty kick.
The penalty was drawn when a Cardinal player was taken down inside the box from behind.
Hartmann would execute the penalty kick, beating Reinmuth to the right side.
From there the game would head for extra time and after a scoreless first overtime it was Hartmann scoring again in the second overtime.
The Cardinal drew a corner kick that Saccocio teed up sending the ball into the box. After bouncing around it landed right in the middle of the box on the foot of a wide open Hartmann 10 yards out. Hartmann would drill her shot over Reinmuth to send the Cardinals to victory.
Hartmann now has a team-high seven goals including six in the past four games.
Plattsburgh State finished the night with a slight 15-11 shot edge and a 5-1 corner kick advantage.
With its fourth-straight win, Plattsburgh State is now 5-2-1 on the season while Middlebury goes to 2-2-1.
After their recent three game home stand, the Cardinals will look for their fifth-straight win when they open up State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play on the road Saturday against Potsdam at 1 p.m.
