FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team continued its strong start to the 2026 season Saturday, earning a 2-0 victory over Farmingdale State College in its road opener. The win moves the Cardinals to 2-0 on the season and marks the first meeting between the two programs in women's soccer history.
Plattsburgh State carried the momentum from its 4-1 home-opening victory over VTSU-Castleton into its first road contest of the season, putting together another strong offensive performance against the Rams.
The Cardinals opened the scoring in the 14th minute when junior Bailee Lafountain (Mooers Forks, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton) found the back of the net, heading home a rebound off her own shot from eight yards out to give Plattsburgh State an early advantage. The goal was Lafountain's fourth of the season.
Plattsburgh State added to its lead in the 57th minute when senior Sydney Myers (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Saranac) scored her first goal of the season. Sophomore Mariah Nowicki (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) provided the assist, sending a through ball from the center circle that Myers collected before finding the lower-left corner from 15 yards out.
The Cardinals finished the contest with 14 shots, putting eight on target. Farmingdale State recorded 17 shots, with six finding their way on goal, but Plattsburgh State's defensive effort helped preserve the victory. Junior Desiree DuBois (Champlain, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton Central) recorded six saves in the contest.
With the victory, Plattsburgh State improves to 2-0 on the season and continues its early-season road swing when it takes on Stevens tomorrow at 11 a.m.
