FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team remained unbeaten to start the 2026 season, playing to a 1-1 draw against a tough Stevens side Sunday afternoon as the Cardinals wrapped up their opening-weekend tournament hosted by Farmingdale State.
Plattsburgh State, which entered the contest with back-to-back victories to open the season, moves to 2-0-1 on the year following the draw. Stevens, which advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season, provided a strong test for the Cardinals in what marked the first meeting between the two programs in school history.
After a scoreless opening half, Plattsburgh State broke through in the 55th minute. Kyra Whitman (Stafford, Texas/Fort Bend Christian Academy) scored her first goal as a Cardinal, finishing off a through ball from Bailee Lafountain (Mooers Forks, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton), giving Plattsburgh a 1-0 advantage.
Stevens answered in the 69th minute when Isabelle Knott converted a free kick to level the match at 1-1. The free kick found its way toward the bottom right corner and trickled across the line. Neither team could find the go-ahead goal in the closing minutes, as the Cardinals secured the draw and remained unbeaten through their first three matches of the season.
Stevens finished with a 17-13 advantage in shots and an 8-5 edge in shots on goal. Plattsburgh goalkeeper Desiree DuBois (Champlain, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton Central) turned aside seven shots in the Plattsburgh goal, helping the Cardinals withstand the Ducks' offensive pressure.
The Cardinals now return home for their next matchup, taking on Clarkson University on Wednesday.
