Box Score 2 BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State softball team traveled to the DYC Athletic Complex to face Buffalo State in a pair of SUNYAC games, dropping both 5-3 in eight innings and 5-0.
In the first game the Cardinals took a 1-0 lead in bottom of fourth, taking advantage of a throwing error by Bengals pitcher Maddie Coneys resulting in Jacqueline Decker scoring from third.
Buffalo State would respond with its very next at bats tying the game at 1-1 in the top of the fifth. Stephanie Novo tripled to left center scoring Taylor Swiatek.
The Cardinals would retake the lead in the bottom of the fifth with a bases loaded situation. Decker would ground out to the first baseman but it was good enough to bring
Nicole Chiarello home.
The Bengals would tack on two in the top of the sixth to give them their first lead of the game at 3-2, capitalizing on two errors in the inning by Plattsburgh State.
Down to its final out, Plattsburgh State would take advantage of a Bengals error which allowed
Dominique Zummo to score and tie the game at 3-3 to force extra innings.
Extra innings would not take long as in the top have of the eighth Joanna Bardak would hit a two run homer to left center to propel the Bengals to a 5-3 victory.
Morgan Anderson would start the game for the Cardinals going 4 1/3 innings only allowing one earned run in the no decision.
Bengals pitcher Coneys went all eight innings for Buffalo State striking out five while allowing just one earned run.
In the second game the Cardinals struggled to get their offense going to generate runs while collecting seven hits.
Buffalo State would plate one in the second on a single by Swiatek plating Bardak before scoring two more in the third on a single by Novo and a double to left field by Jean Stahl.
In the fifth the Bengals would make it 5-0 on a single up the middle by Sarah Gorski driving in Kate Brownell and Danielle Szymkowiak.
Kristine Fisher started the game for the Cardinals going 3 2/3 innings allowing three runs on five hits.
Buffalo State pitcher A. Haley pitched a seven inning shutout striking out two and walking none.
Plattsburgh State now 6-12 (1-3) will get right back to action Saturday at Fredonia in another SUNYAC doubleheader as they look to get back to .500 in the SUNYAC. Opening pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
