Box Score 2 PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State softball team played at Cardinal Park for the first time all season as they hosted SUNY Cortland on Saturday afternoon coming up just short in both games of the doubleheader, 7-2 and 3-1 (8 inn.).
In the first game the Cardinals hung tight despite the Red Dragons taking a 2-0 lead through the first four innings.
SUNY Cortland broke the game open in the top of the fifth when Mikayla Shade hit a three-run home run just inside the right field foul pole to make it 5-0.
Plattsburgh State would rally for two runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 6-2.

Kelsey Gage singled herself that drove in Jacqueline Decker.
Devynn Wilder would provide an insurance run for the Red Dragons in the top of the seven platting Erin Wolstenholme on a grounder to the second baseman for SUNY Cortland's seventh run.
Morgan Anderson got the start for the Cardinals going four innings while allowing five runs.
Jamie Lachall was in the circle for SUNY Cortland, going five innings allowing no runs and striking out four.
The second game would feature a pitcher's duel and require extra innings as Plattsburgh State's
Kristin Fisher and SUNY Cortland's Alexandrea Flint would go at each other pitch for pitch.
The Red Dragons took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth on Carrie Stoddard pitch hit sacrifice fly scoring Wolestenholme.
It would stay 1-0 all the way to the bottom of the seventh but the Cardinals would rally for a run in their final at bats.
Marshall again would provide the offense hitting a lead-off double to left center.
Amanda Tantillo would score the Malone, N.Y., native from second base on a fielder's choice to the second baseman.
After the Cardinals forced extra innings the Red Dragons would respond with two runs in the top of the eighth to earn the 3-1 victory.
Both runs came with one swing of the bat when Kaleigh Churchill doubled to left field platting Bianca Trio and Andrea Schoonmaker.
Senior, Fisher pitched all eight innings for the Cardinals keeping the Red Dragons at bay striking out four in the process.
Flint went 6 2/3 innings for SUNY Cortland giving up one run on four hits before Sarah Salamone closed the game out in a 1 1/3 innings of work.
Plattsburgh State finished up their season at 10-22 (5-13 SUNYAC).
