Box Score 2 BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The Plattsburgh State softball team challenged the Brockport Golden Eagles Saturday afternoon sweeping the day 8-5 and 4-0.
In the first game Plattsburgh State would make Brockport pay on their four errors in the game.
The Golden Eagles would come out firing as they took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
Brockport's Erika Lazzaro singled up the middle scoring Brianna Ferchen.
After the Golden Eagles stranded base runners in the second and third, Plattsburgh took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth when
Kelsey Gage blooped one into left field that was dropped by the fielder.
Brittany Marshall and
Hope VanBrocklin would come around to score.
The Cardinals would tack on another run in the top of the sixth on a
Nicole Cast double to left field that would plate
Lauren Graves to make it 3-1.
In the bottom of the sixth Perry would single with runners on second and third bring in Lazzaro but an error on the play would allow Kelly Proper to score as well to knot the game at 3-3.
In the top of the seventh, Brockport pitcher would commit an error on a Nicole Chairello bunt which would result in runners on second and third and no one out.
After intentionally walking Marshall, VanBrocklin would single to left field platting
Dominique Zummo.for a 4-3 Cardinal lead.
Gage would work a walk to score Chairello and make it 5-3.
Kelsey Graves would groundout resulting in Marshall scoring from third.
Nicole Cast would send the ball out to left field reaching on another Golden Eagles error scoring VanBrocklin and Gage making it 8-3.
Brockport wouldnt go down quietly though using every last out in the bottom of the seventh.
With the bases loaded the Golden Eagles would score back-to-back runs on hit by pitches to trim the lead to 8-5 but that is as far as the rally would go.
Cardinal's pitcher
Morgan Anderson went 5 1/3 innings for the Cardinals in the no decision.
In the second game the Cardinals picked up where they left off taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the second.
Taylor Smith singled to left center allowing Gage to come home.
In the top of the fifth the Cardinals would add to their lead when Marshall singled through the left side scoring Zummo to make it 2-0.
Plattsburgh State would strike again in the top of the sixth to make it 4-0 on a Smith single that scored
Evelyn Vicencio and Graves.
Kristen Fisher went all seven innings for the Cardinals in the circle hurling a shutout while striking out four.
With the sweep Plattsburgh State goes to 10-20 (5-11 SUNYAC) and will return to the diamond on Tuesday when they travel to Skidmore to play the Thoroughbreds for a doubleheader starting at 3:30 p.m.
