Box Score 2 PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State softball team traveled Geneseo Friday evening to take on the Knights in a SUNYAC doubleheader falling 3-2 and 7-4.
In the first game despite out hitting Geneseo 8-4, the Cardinals struggled with runners in scoring position going 1-10.
Geneseo jumped out to a quick lead tallying two in the bottom of the first.
Courtney Budynas homered to center field with a runner on base to take a 2-0 Knights lead.
The Cardinals would rally to tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the third.
Nicole Chiarello would reach on base by a throwing error by the pitcher that would also allow
Dominique Zummo to cross the plate from second base.

Kelsey Gage would single to left with runners on second and third, scoring
Brittany Marshall to knot the game up.
Geneseo would recapture the lead 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth with a two out pitch hit single by Julia Lalka.

Morgan Anderson went all six innings giving up three runs and striking out three.
Knight's pitcher Corrin Spallone went the distance for Geneseo giving up one earned run and striking out seven in seven innings.
For the second-straight game Geneseo would take the lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Jenna Phillips singled to left field scoring Budyna to give the Knights a 1-0 advantage.
The Knights would be back at it in the bottom of third when Sami Brown would double with one out in the inning. Budynas would come up next and lace a single up the middle bringing in Brown for a 2-0 lead.
Plattsburgh State would storm back in the top of fourth to take a 3-2 lead when
Amanda Tantillo came up to bat with the bases loaded. The Florida, N.Y., native tripled to right field clearing the bases.
The Knights would tie it up 3-3 with their home at bats in the fourth. Emily Martin lead off the inning with a single before Claire Vannewkirk singled to right bringing in Martin.
Geneseo break the game open when they took a three-run lead in the bottom of the fifth.
Abby Dennett doubled with bases loaded platting all three base runners making it 6-3 Knights.
The Cardinals would try to claw back in the top of the sixth when
Hope VanBrocklin led off the inning with a solo home run.
Geneseo would add an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to stretch the lead back to three runs when Budynas reached on a fielder's choice to make it 7-4.
Taylor Smith started for the Cardinals going 3 1/3 allowing three runs and strking out four before Kirsten Fisher came on in relief pitching the final 2 2/3 innings only allowing one earned run and striking out two.
Mikayla Moore went 6 1/3 innings for the Knights allowing three earned runs while striking out seven.
Plattsburgh State drops to 8-20 (3-11 SUNYAC) and now will head to Brockport on Saturday for a SUNYAC doubleheader against the Golden Eagles starting at noon.
