Box Score 2 ONEONTA, N.Y. – Plattsburgh State softball team traveled to Oneonta to face the Red Dragons in a SUNYAC doubleheader Sunday dropping both games 8-2 and 10-2 (5 innings).
In the first game
Brittany Marshall hit a solo homer to make it 1-0 Cardinals. It is the third consecutive doubleheader that Marshall has at least hit one home run in either game.
However, The Red Dragons would respond platting two on a Brianna Rivera double to right center.
Oneonta State would add on to its 2-1 lead when Traci Lichtenstein hit a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Lichtenstein would drive home another run in the bottom of the sixth to give her five RBIs in the game.
The Cardinals would get one back in the top of the seventh when
Nicole Cast scored on a Nicole Chairello groundout to the shortstop.
Kristen Fisher picked up the loss for the Cardinals going 3 1/3 innings, allowing six runs.
Oneonta State pitcher Sabrina DeAngelis tossed all seven innings only giving up two runs and striking out five.
In the second game Oneonta State would score in all five innings including a three run third and a four run fifth.
Plattsburgh State would plate one in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead when
Dominique Zummo scored.
The Red Dragons would tie it at 1-1 in the bottom of the first before taking a 2-1 lead through two innings.
Oneonta State would break the game open in the bottom of the third when Jenn Brocco sent a three-run home run over the left center fence.
Cardinal's
Taylor Smith would single in
Amanda Tantillo in the top of the fourth to cut the Red Dragons lead to 5-2.
After scoring a run in the bottom of the fourth, the Red Dragons would bring home four runs in the bottom of the fifth, gaining an eight run lead to end the game.
Plattsburgh State's
Morgan Anderson pitched four innings allowing six earned runs in the loss.
Oneonta State pitcher Rachel Hitt went all five innings allowing no earned runs and striking out four.
Plattsburgh State is now 6-18 (1-9 SUNYAC) and will head to Potsdam on Tuesday to challenge the Bears in a SUNYAC North Country doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
