Box Score 2 SAUGERTIES, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State softball team traveled to Cantine Park to take on New Paltz Saturday afternoon, dropping both games in the doubleheader 8-4 and 5-4.
In the first game
Brittany Marshall would get things going for the Cardinals in the top of the first hitting a solo homer to center field.
New Paltz would respond with a home run of its own by Shayna Burgess to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first.
The Hawks would continue to add to their lead when Meg Brewer hit a grand slam to propel New Paltz to a 6-2.
Lauren Graves would get one back in the top of the fourth when she doubled to right center driving in Nicole Chairello.
Burgess would hit her second homer of the game in the bottom of the fourth to give the Hawks a 7-2 lead.
Plattsburgh State would cut into the New Platz lead when
Dominique Zummo hit a two run shot over the center field fence.
Lauren Cappello would cap of game off adding a insurance run in the sixth on an RBI ground out to second base for a 8-4 advantage.
Cardinal's pitcher
Morgan Anderson got the start going two innings and allowing two earned runs in a losing effort.
Katie Rutcofsky went all seven for the Hawks allowing three earned runs while striking out five.
In the second game the Cardinals hung tough throughout jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
New Paltz would tie the game 1-1 in the bottom of the second a Kiersten Carlomangno double to center field.
The Cardinals would recapture the lead in the top of the fourth on a Graves double driving in
Hope VanBrocklin.
However New Paltz would make it 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth on a Fallon Spriggs home run to left center.
Spriggs would be back at it again in the bottom of the six giving the Hawks a 3-2 advantage with a double down the line platting Molly Peymann
In their last at bats the Cardinals would answer back when
Amanda Tantillo drilled a two-run homer to give Plattsburgh State a 5-4 lead.
New Paltz would respond with their last at bats as Jordan Fiore hit a walk-off homer for a 5-4 victory.
Kristen Fisher went 5 2/3 innings for the Cardinals striking out six while her counterpart Taylor Corwin giving up no earned runs in four innings for the Hawks.
Plattsburgh State now sits 6-16 (1-8 SUNYAC) on the season and will travel to Oneonta on Sunday to play the Red Dragons in a SUNYAC doubleheader starting at noon.
