Box Score BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team slipped on the road at Buffalo State Saturday afternoon, losing to the Bengals 2-1.
The Bengals would tally the first two goals of the game to take a 2-0 lead. Both Bengal's goals would be scored by Melissa Smith.
Smith netted her first goal in the 19
th minute when she faked a shot, slipped by the defense before tucking her shot into the corner of the net.
In the 43
rd minute, Smith took a quick shot of a set piece to the left of the goal. Cardinal's goalie
Nichole Gibson would get a piece of it but not enough as the ball would trickle to the back of the net.
Plattsburgh State would counter fast when
Sarah Haight would bring the Cardinals back within one moments later with her fourth goal of the year in the 44
th minute.
Haight would spark a breakaway beating the Buffalo State defense and sliding her shot by Bengal's goalkeeper Jessica McCarey who was charging off her line.
After being outshot 11-1 in the first half, the Cardinals would attack in the second half outshooting the Bengals 8-4.
The best chance the Cardinals had was in the waning minutes when Plattsburgh State had a flurry of corner kicks and shots but the equalizer would be to no avail.
Gibson would finish the game with seven saves while McCarey would make two.
Plattsburgh State falls to 9-5-1 (4-3-0 SUNYAC) while Buffalo State has reeled off 11 straight wins to go to 12-3-0 and remain a perfect 7-0-0 in the SUNYAC.
The Cardinals will finish the season with three-straight home games starting on Tuesday when they host Johnson State at 7 p.m.
