Brittany Marshall went 2-for-5 with an RBI, two walks and three runs scored in Wednesday's split.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CANTON, N.Y.  – Brianna Clarke went 4-for-7 with four RBIs as the Plattsburgh State softball team split a non-conference doubleheader at St. Lawrence Wednesday afternoon. The Cardinals took game one, 3-2, before suffering a 7-6 loss in game two.

With the split, Plattsburgh State moves to 7-21 overall and St. Lawrence finishes the day at 10-18 on the year.

Game One: Plattsburgh State 3, St. Lawrence 2

The Cardinals jumped out to an early lead in game one by capitalizing on a lack of command from St. Lawrence starter Kyle Plimpton. Three straight walks to lead off the inning loaded the bases before Nicole Chiarello scored on a passed ball to give Plattsburgh State a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.

A lead-off walk to Brittany Marshall in the top of third followed by a stolen base placed Marshall in scoring position for Shelby Heyward with one out. Heyward delivered with an infield single that allowed Marshall to score and give the Cardinals a 2-0 advantage.

St. Lawrence responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third off the bat of Cailyn Welsh. Leslie Stratton started the Saints' rally with a one-out single before Rebecca Allen doubled to center field to put runners on second and third. Welsh followed with a two-run single to tie it up at 2-2.

Some clutch two-out hitting helped the Cardinals score the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh. After Plimpton quickly retired Kayla Rabideau and Chiarello, Marshall kept Plattsburgh State alive with a two-out single to left field. Clarke followed with a double to left, allowing Marshall to score the winning run.

Plattsburgh State's Morgan Anderson retired the Saints in order in the bottom of the seventh to secure her second victory of the season. Anderson allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out three in the complete-game win.

Plimpton gave up two earned runs and four hits in the loss for St. Lawrence. She issued six walks and struck out 12.

Marshall had two hits and two runs scored for the Cardinals, while Allen and Brady Cooper each picked up a pair of hits for the Saints.

Game Two: St. Lawrence 7, Plattsburgh State 6

St. Lawrence's Hannah Sears drove in three runs in game two to help the Saints emerge on the winning end of a back-and-forth battle.

The Saints grabbed the first lead in the bottom of the second thanks to RBI singles by Stratton and Natasha Bell. Stratton scored later in inning on a passed ball to give St. Lawrence a 3-0 lead through two innings.

Plattsburgh State went out in front in the top of the fifth by plating five runs. A single by Samantha Tenney, a walk to Chiarello and an error by the Saints loaded the bases for Clarke, who doubled to left to drive in three runs. Sam Capobianco hit a two-run double to left later in the inning, scoring Clarke and Heyward to give the Cardinals a 5-3 lead.

The lead was a short-lived one though as the Saints scored three times in the bottom half of the fifth to regain the lead. After back-to-back singles to start the inning, Anderson come in to relieve Plattsburgh State starter Kristin Fisher. Anderson was unable to work out of the jam as Sears hit a three-run home run over the fence in left center to make it 6-5 in favor of the Saints.

The Cardinals tied the game up in the top of the sixth on Marshall's sacrifice fly but Anderson issues a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the sixth, allowing the winning run to score for St. Lawrence.

Anderson took the loss after giving up two runs, two walks and three hits in two innings of relief. Fisher gave up four earned runs on nine hits and struck out five in the no decision.

Plimpton allowed six hits and six runs, five of which were earned in the complete-game victory for St. Lawrence. She walked three and struck out six.

Sears went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and one run for the Saints while Aisha O'Connor went 3-for-4 at the plate.

Clarke finished the second game with three RBIs and three hits, including a double and a triple for the Cardinals. Capobianco went 2-for-4 in the loss.

The Cardinals turn their attention back to league play with three conference doubleheaders this weekend to close out the regular season. Plattsburgh State begins the weekend with a doubleheader against Brockport at Cardinal Park on Friday at 3 p.m.
