Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – The Plattsburgh State softball team suffered a pair of losses in the first day of the 2014 season at the Dot Richardson Spring Games hosted by the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla.
Game One: Babson 10, Plattsburgh State 2 (6 inn.)
The Cardinals suffered a 10-2 loss to Babson to open the annual spring trip to Florida. Plattsburgh State finished the game with five hits and four errors while Babson gathered 11 hits in the win.
The Cardinals scored both runs in the bottom of the second inning. Kristine Gay drew a walk, followed by a single up the middle by Nicole Chiarello to put runners on first and second for Plattsburgh State. Kayla Rabideau drilled a two-run single through the right side to bring Gay and Chiarello around to score Plattsburgh State's only runs of the day.
Sam Moss tossed 3.1 innings, allowing seven runs, one walk and striking out two in the loss. Morgan Anderson went the rest of the way, surrendering three runs and two walks with one strikeout.
Game Two: Benedictine 9, Plattsburgh State 0 (5 inn.)
In the second game of the day, the Cardinals (0-2) were unable to muster much offense in a 9-0 loss to Benedictine in five innings.
Kristin Fisher got the start for Plattsburgh State, allowing nine runs on nine hits through 3.1 innings. Fisher walked three and struck out four. Anderson came in to record the final two outs, striking out one.
Brittany Marshall, Brianna Clarke, Samantha Capobianco and Nicole Chiarello all picked up singles in the loss for the Cardinals.
Sarah Koch went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and a run scored for Benedictine. Kelly Mieszala and Amanda Straka each drove in a pair of runs for the Eagles, who amassed nine hits en route to the victory.
Katie McKay earned the win for Benedictine, allowing four hits and striking out one.
The Cardinals look to rebound tomorrow with games against Keene State College and Wisconsin-River Falls at 1 and 3 p.m., respectively.
