Cardinals Score Two Late Goals to Tie Oswego State 2-2

Anissa Hartmann burried her second goal of they year in the 86th minute against Oswego State to force a tie for the Cardinals.
Box Score PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team had to use all 90 minutes of regulation Saturday afternoon to fight Oswego State to a 2-2 tie.
 
The first half was scoreless as the Cardinals and Lakers each fired off seven shots in the half.
 
Oswego had two quality scoring chances in the first half at the 28-minute mark and the 31st minute. The 28th minute had the Lakers set up two yards outside the box for a free kick after a Cardinal hand ball. Georgia Traynor took the free kick that was on frame but Cardinal goalkeeper Danielle Schmitt was able to get a hand on the ball and send it over the crossbar.
 
The 31st minute featured Laker Emma Geyer breaking past the Cardinal defense. She shot the ball on the ground past Schmitt but the shot hit the right post and then cleared.
 
The second half however contained four goals in an action packed 45 minutes.
 
Oswego State capitalized on one of their eight corner kicks when Traynor sent the ball into the box connecting with this past weeks State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) offensive player of the week Sarah Grupp who scored her third goal of the season.
 
The Lakers weren't done yet after the hometown Plattsburgh, N.Y., native and daughter of current Plattsburgh State men's soccer coach (Chris Waterbury) and former Plattsburgh State women's soccer coach (Karen Waterbury) Bailey Waterbury scored her first goal of her 2014 season in the 74th minute.
 
Facing a 2-0 hole with less than six minutes left the Cardinals didn't crack striking twice in a blink of an eye.
 
The first goal came in the 85th minute when Lindsey Bushey sent a free kick into the box finding fellow freshman Brooke Knight who sent in her third goal of the season.
 
Less than two minutes later the magic continued when Anissa Hartman scored her second goal unassisted. After Cammey Keyser attempted a corner kick the ball deflected around and as Oswego tried to clear Hartman was in the right place. She roofed a shot from in the box over Laker goalkeeper Alyssa Glasshagel to tie it up at 2-2.
 
With all the momentum headed into overtime the Cardinals were able to control play throughout both periods. Plattsburgh generated several scoring chances including in the waning seconds of the second overtime Brooke Knight had a chance to score her second of the game but Glasshagel made a diving save.
 
With the game still tied a shootout commenced for possible tie breaking purposes in the SUNYAC standings. The Cardinals won the shootout 3-2 after both teams made each of their first two shots. Schmitt made three consuctive saves to capture the shootout victory.
 
Schmitt finished the afternoon with five saves while Glasshagel had 10 saves. Steph Hotaling appeared in net for the Lakers in the shootout.
 
The Cardinals held a 23-11 shot advantage that saw them out shoot Oswego 7-1 in overtime. The Lakers however had an 8-2 advantage in the corner kick department.
 
 
With the tie both team remain unbeaten in SUNYAC play as Plattsburgh State goes to 6-3-1 (2-0-1 SUNYAC) while Oswego State is no 5-4-2 (2-0-2 SUNYAC).
 
The Cardinals will board the bus for their next two SUNYAC game as they head south to challenge New Paltz on Friday and Oneonta on Saturday.
