PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team is gearing up to make a return trip to Oneonta but this time the stakes will be much higher as the Cardinals and Red Dragons will matchup in the SUNYAC Tournament Quarterfinals on Saturday.
Oneonta earned the #4 seed with a 4-3-2 SUNYAC record and will host the fifth seeded Cardinals who went 4-4-1 in the SUNYAC. The Red Dragons overall were 7-8-3 after their 2-1 victory over Hartwick on Wednesday. Plattsburgh finished the season 9-7-1 and currently is enjoying a two-game win streak.
The Cardinals played Oneonta on October 11
th that saw the Red Dragons escape with a 2-1 win on a Jessica Lyden header with only 47 seconds left in regulation. Cammey Keyser scored the lone goal for Plattsburgh that day on an assist from Lindsey Bushey.
Since that game Plattsburgh has gone 3-2 while the Red Dragons went 2-2-1. Both Cardinal losses were 1-0 defeats while their three wins featured two scores of 4-1 and most recently 6-0. Oneonta has netted just five goals since playing Plattsburgh on the 11
th.
The Cardinals have scored a total of 40 goals this season compared to the Red Dragons 17 and have also only allowed 14 goals while Oneonta has conceded 23. Plattsburgh finished first in the SUNYAC in goals per game at 2.35 and second in goals allowed giving up less than a goal a game (.82). Oneonta finished last in the SUNYAC in goals per game as the only team averaging less than one (.95) but forth in goals allowed at 1.21 per game.
One thing Oneonta does have in its favor much similar to Plattsburgh is the Red Dragons do enjoy their own confinements at home as they are 6-2-0 at the Red Dragon Soccer Field compared to 1-5-3 when traveling. The Cardinals posted a 6-1-1 record at home but have struggled some away from the Field House Complex going 3-6-0 on the road.
Plattsburgh will look to overcome its road woes as they look to flip the script from their previous meeting against Oneonta on Saturday at 1 p.m. Winner of Saturday's game will travel on Wednesday to face the #1 seed, Geneseo Knights. Both the Cardinals and Red Dragons lost to Geneseo in the regular season.
