Despite winning eight of the last 10 SUNYAC games, the Cardinals were unable to climb to the top of the league standings after a pair of early-season losses to both Brockport and New Paltz put Plattsburgh State in a hole. The Cardinals come into the tournament with a 22-14 overall record and a 12-6 mark in conference play.
Brianna Clarke enters the weekend as Plattsburgh’s State offensive leader, appearing in all 36 games. Clarke is batting .407 with a .619 slugging percentage and a .454 on-base percentage. In addition to eight doubles, she leads the team with 48 hits, 25 RBIs, five home runs and 73 total bases. Samantha Tenney has added a team-high nine doubles while Brittany Marshall has swiped 11 bases and is tied with Megan Price for the team lead with 21 runs scored.
Much like 2012, senior Ashley Marshall has dominated in the circle. Marshall finished the regular season with a 19-5 record, with 10 of her wins coming against SUNYAC opponents. She leads the league in wins, earned run average (1.89), innings pitched (166.2) and strikeouts (260).
The Cardinals have won two SUNYAC Championships in program history – 2006 and 2012.
