Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – The Plattsburgh State softball team opened the 2013 season Saturday morning, splitting a pair of games against Ramapo College and Keene State at the NTC Spring Games.

Senior All-American pitcher Ashley Marshall began the 2013 campaign in dominant fashion allowing four hits and striking out 13 batters through five shutout innings to earn her first win of the season.
The Cardinals plated three runs in the bottom of the second inning to jump out to an early lead. Michelle Iannone led off the inning with a double to left before being lifted for a pinch-runner. Sam Capobianco singled to left and Kristin Nabor reached on a fielder’s choice before Samantha Tenney singled down the right-field line to bring home a pair of runs. Nabor scored later in the inning on a ground out to short by Kerry McCarty.
With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, McCarty doubled to left field to get a runner in scoring position. After Megan Price drew a walk, Brittany Marshall singled to bring McCarty around to score and give the Cardinals a 4-0 lead.
Morgan Anderson stepped in the Plattsburgh circle for the final two innings, allowing one run on four hits while striking out three.
Keene State 6, Plattsburgh 3
An early six-run deficit proved to be too much for the Cardinals who dropped Saturday’s second game, 6-3 to the Keene State Owls.
The Cardinals pumped out 12 hits in the loss but struggled to drive in runs, leaving 11 runners on base.
Freshman pitcher Samantha Moss struggled in her collegiate debut, allowing six runs through 1 2/3 innings. Ashley Marshall came in to relive Moss with two out in the second, surrendering three hits and one walk while striking out six in 4 1/3 innings.
Sam Capobianco drove in a run and went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles. Samantha Tenney went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Brittany Marshall went 2-for-4 which included an RBI singles.
Kristin Nabor also had nice game at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a single, a triple and a walk.
The Cardinals (1-1) continue their spring trip Sunday with games against Babson College at 9 a.m. and Amherst College at 11 a.m.
