Scott Tallies Third Goal of 2013 in Cardinals' 2-1 Loss at Fredonia State

Freshman Vicky Scott scored her third goal of the season on Saturday afternoon.
Box Score FREDONIA, N.Y. – A second consecutive late-game goal to force overtime wasn't in the cards for the Plattsburgh State women's soccer team as the Cardinals dropped a 2-1 SUNYAC decision at Fredonia State on Saturday afternoon.

Sitting below the Cardinals (4-9-2, 2-4-1 SUNYAC) in terms of total league points at the beginning of the afternoon, the Blue Devils came out with intentions of scoring first. Maria Green fired the first shot of the game squarely into the waiting mitts of Plattsburgh State keeper Kristy Kirkpatrick with just 2:33 gone in the bout.

Continuing her quest for goals, freshman standout Diana DiCocco notched the Cardinals' first shot on goal of the game at 12:27 when her attempt was blocked away by Hannah McGlinchey.

Fredonia State (4-9-2, 2-4-1 SUNYAC) drew first blood in a competitive first half when Alexis Moreland sent a ball past Kirkpatrick at 21:01. Kristie Kenline provided the assist for the first score of the game.

One of two Plattsburgh State substitutions in the 27th minute of play, freshman Vicky Scott would need less than 12 minutes of field time before making her presence felt.

Kirkpatrick was forced to shove away another pair of Fredonia State shots on goal before Scott netted the equalizer for the Cardinals. With 39:21 elapsed, the Naugatuck, Conn., product fired a strong shot past McGlinchey to bring her 2013 goal harvest to three and knot the score at one.

With the offensive momentum in their corner, the Cardinals peppered McGlinchey with another pair of shots before the first half was in the books.

Through the opening 8:34 of the deciding half, Plattsburgh State attempted a pair of corner kicks, but each shot generated by them was handled by McGlinchey.

Just as the Cardinals' offensive flurry had concluded, the Blue Devils began one of their own. After getting one of their shots blocked by a Plattsburgh State defender and having another one reeled in by Kirkpatrick, the home team broke up the deadlock. Kenline scored her seventh goal of the season at 59:30, putting the Blue Devils up 2-1.

Plattsburgh State amped up its offensive intensity shortly thereafter, but the Cardinals were unable to force overtime with another well-timed goal. Hannah Saccocio and Charisse Abellard were each able to get a shot off in the final three minutes for the Cardinals.

Making up for an 18-13 edge in shots by the Blue Devils, Plattsburgh State attempted four corner kicks to just three by the home squad. Each team had nine shots on goal and 19 total fouls were whistled in the match.

Having concluded their scheduled slate of SUNYAC road contests, the Cardinals will make one last pair of appearances at the Field House Complex next weekend. Plattsburgh State will tangle with Brockport at 3 p.m. on Friday afternoon before honoring seniors Emily LaLone and Lauren Gonyea prior to Saturday's 1 p.m. tilt against SUNY Geneseo.
