Cardinals Launch 2012 Tennis Campaign with 9-0 Sweep of Lyndon State

LYNDONVILLE, Vt. - The Plattsburgh State women's tennis team showed no signs of having any early season rust to shake off, cruising to a 9-0 victory against the Lyndon Hornets on Saturday (September 1) at the Dudley Bell Tennis Center.

The Cardinals (1-0) jumped out to a quick 1-0 advantage in the doubles flights as Caitlin Belladone and Rachel Hodnett joined forces for an 8-2 triumph over Kayla Flynn and Maria Parr. Jessica Paquette and Jackie Bogdan picked up the second team point for the visitors with a near-flawless 8-1 victory in No. 2 pairs before Samantha Fasciano and Samantha Omlin put the wraps on a 3-0 doubles schedule with an 8-2 win in the No. 3 slot.

Putting their dominance on a more prominent display, the Cardinals' first three singles matches featured only two games going the way of the Hornets (0-1), as Hodnett bested Flynn in straight sets before Paquette won a 6-0, 6-2 decision against Parr. Omlin recorded the only other straight-set victory for the road warriors on the match.

Bogdan was the 6-2, 6-3 victor over Olivia Bernard before Emily Carlen produced the first win of her sophomore season with a 6-0, 6-1 verdict against Alex Meynard. Completing the shutout for the Cardinals was Meghan Ryan, who took a 6-2, 6-4 decision against Margaret George in the No. 6 singles slot.

Plattsburgh State will be forced to deal with a quick turnaround, as it welcomes Castleton State to Plattsburgh on Sunday (September 2). First serve is slated for 2 p.m. at the Field House Tennis Courts.
