CASTLETON, VT. — The Plattsburgh State women's tennis team closed out its 2025–26 season with a strong road performance, defeating Vermont State University Castleton, 6–1, in its season finale.
The Cardinals opened the match by taking two of three doubles contests to gain early control. The No. 1 pairing of Jacklin Mitchell (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Peru) and Ava Carey (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet) battled to a 7–6 win, while Ava Perry (Plattsburgh, N/ Plattsburgh) and Carmen Marino (Buchanan, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) secured a 6–1 victory at No. 2 doubles. Castleton earned the point at No. 3 doubles, but Plattsburgh still carried momentum into singles play.
In singles action, the Cardinals dominated across the lineup. Mitchell delivered a straight-set win at No. 1 singles, followed by Carey at No. 2, who also earned a convincing victory. Marino continued her strong performance with a win at No. 5 singles, while Kristy Cantwell (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) battled through a three-set match at No. 4 to secure another point for Plattsburgh. Marena Tubo (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) closed out the match with a straight-set win at No. 6 to round out the team victory.
Castleton picked up its lone point at No. 3 singles, but the Cardinals controlled play throughout the match.
With the win, Plattsburgh finishes its season, continuing from the fall slate, at 5–5 overall.
