Ashley Marshall was named SUNYAC Pitcher of the Year after a dominant junior season for the Cardinals. The Malone, N.Y. native also landed a spot on the All-SUNYAC First Team with a 22-4 record in 33 appearances in the circle with a 1.48 ERA and two saves. Marshall, who is second all-time in Plattsburgh history with 59 career wins, has limited opponents to a .185 batting average. In 165 innings pitched, she has struck out 248 batters – a total that ranks sixth in Division III. Marshall is the second Cardinal to receive Pitcher of the Year honors, joining current head coach Stephanie Zweig, who earned the honor in 2006 and 2007.

Infielder Brittany Marshall becomes the first Plattsburgh State softball player to earn Rookie of the Year accolades. Marshall is third on the team with a .311 batting average, registering 38 hits in 122 at-bats. She has compiled 19 RBIs, scored a team-high 41 runs and ranks 15th in the nation with 32 stolen bases. Marshall has started at 38 games she has appeared in, totaling 50 putouts and 34 assists from the shortstop position. The Malone, N.Y. native was also a member of the All-SUNYAC Second Team and was one of just two freshmen to be honored by the conference.

Florkiewicz receives her second all-conference nod as a member of the first team. The Cardinals’ senior catcher leads the team with a .383 batting average, a .468 on-base percentage and a .691 slugging percentage. Florkiewicz, a Warwick, N.Y. native, has 24 RBIs, six home runs, seven doubles and two triples in 37 games played. She has also provided Plattsburgh with a strong defensive presence behind the plate, boasting a .997 fielding percentage.

Clarke garners All-SUNYAC Second Team honors, marking the first conference award of her career. The sophomore out of Manorville, N.Y. is second on the team with a .375 batting average. Clarke leads the Cardinals with 45 hits, 70 total bases and 18 walks. She is tied for the team-lead with seven triples and six home runs.

The Cardinals received an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after winning their second SUNYAC title last weekend at Cortland. Plattsburgh begins its quest for a regional title tomorrow as the No. 2 seed and will face the University of New England at 4 p.m. The double-elimination regional tournament is set for Thursday-Monday at Amherst College in Amherst, Mass.
