SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State softball team (20-7) used two 3-1 victories to sweep the Skidmore Thoroughbreds (13-19) in non-conference action Wednesday.
Game One:

Despite Skidmore taking a 1-0 lead in the second inning, Plattsburgh fought back. The Cardinals scratched out a run to tie it in the fourth when Allison Smiddy reached on an infield hit and later scored on a squeeze.
Plattsburgh took a 2-1 lead in the fifth on a Brianna Clarke home run and increased the edge to 3-1 with Brittany Marshall's third homer of the season in the seventh.
Sam Crose took the loss for the Thoroughbreds, allowing three runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and no walks. Heather Loughran tossed a three-hitter with a walk and six strikeouts to earn the win.
Game Two:

Julia Schwartz got the second game going by hitting a home run into left center in the second inning. In the bottom of the third, Brittany Marshall stole third and scored on an error to tie it up for Plattsburgh.
The Cardinals grabbed the lead in the fifth as Clarke scored on a wild pitch and made it a 3-1 game on Ashley Marshall's bases-loaded walk in the sixth.
Abby Fuhrman suffered the loss, allowing three runs on six hits, while striking out seven in 5.1 innings of work. Crose allowed one hit and struck out three in 1.2 innings of relief. Ashley Marshall earned the win, allowing just the Schwartz home run, while striking out 11 in the complete game victory.
The Cardinals return to action this weekend when they travel to Oswego and Cortland for SUNYAC doubleheaders.
