PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State softball team (17-6, 8-2 SUNYAC) used a seventh inning rally to take the first game of a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) double header 5-4 against Geneseo (9-15, 3-5 SUNYAC), but then dropped the second game 8-1 as their offense stuttered.

Game One:

The Blue Knights scored four runs in the opening three innings to put the Cardinals on the back foot. A Sam Trapasso triple brought home two runners in the first inning and then K.K. Schaus hit a double in the second inning, before Stefanie Rosenberg singled to make it 4-1.

The Cardinals got a run of their own in the first inning after Brittany Marshall stole home. The third inning saw Plattsburgh chip away some more at the deficit, Brianna Clarke drove Marshall home on a double. In the fourth inning Katie McNally smacked a home run out to right field to bring the Cardinals within one run of Geneseo.

The fifth and sixth innings were both scoreless before the drama of the seventh inning began. The Blue Knights had two runners on base with two outs when Ashley Marshall struck out her fifth batter of the game. Megan Price got the Cardinals going in the last inning with a single, before Brittany Marshall laid down an excellent bunt to get on first base and advance Price to third. With Allison Smiddy at the plate, Marshall stole second base. Smiddy then laid down a bunt and Price slid into the catcher to tie the game and with the ball loose Marshall came home to give the Cardinals the 5-4 victory.

Ashley Marshall picked up the win for the Cardinals after pitching 4.1 innings. Mary Bostwick suffered the loss for the Blue Knights after giving up nine hits.

Game Two:
Boxscore

The Cardinals offense was slowed down in game two as they accounted for just four hits, while the Blue Knights grabbed 10 hits. A low scoring affair was blown open by Geneseo in the sixth inning as they tacked on four runs to make it a 7-1 game.

Geneseo scored two runs in the opening inning and then another in the fourth inning to take another lead on the Cardinals. Plattsburgh hit back when Katie McNally scored on an error by the Blue Knight short stop. Despite having the bases loaded after this run, the Cardinals would not score again in the game.

Ashley Marshall walked a batter to give Geneseo a run, and then Kayleigh Blersch singled to add another. An error by Plattsburgh then allowed two more runners to cross the plate and give the Blue Knights a six-run lead. Schaus hit a one-run home run in final inning to complete the Geneseo scoring and complete an 8-1 victory.

Ashley Marshall took the loss for the Cardinals, taking her record down to 12-3, while Katie Gallagher pitched three innings for the Blue Knights to take the win.

The Cardinals will return for a double header tomorrow against Brockport at Cardinal Park.
