CLERMONT, Fla. - Ashley Marshall tossed a no-hitter to lead the Plattsburgh State softball team (6-3) to a 4-0 win over Lesley University in the first game of the day. She struck out 10 more in relief in game two as the Cardinals followed with a 14-7 victory against Wesleyan to close out the day.
Marshall was dominant in the her first no-hitter of the season as she struck out 10.
Brianna Clarke and Erin Florkiewicz each had two hits. Clarke drove in a run in the bottom of the fifth and scored later in the same inning on a passed ball.
Brittany Marshall drilled a solo home run to left field in the third inning. The Cardinal rookie also scored two runs in the win.
In game two, Plattsburgh trailed 5-1 going into the fourth inning but the bats erupted for 13 runs across the final three innings.
Katie McNally and Brittany Marshall scored three runs apiece. Marshall also swiped three bases.
Two home runs lead to a five-run sixth inning for Plattsburgh. Megan Price led off the inning with a solo home run to center. Clarke reached on a fielder's choice before scoring on a double by McNally. Erin Florkiewicz stepped to the plate and hit a two-run home run to left field to give the Cardinals a 12-6 lead.
Florkiewicz had three RBIs on the afternoon while Price and Clarke each drove in a pair of runs.
Heather Loughran began the day in the circle, struggling through two and one-third innings. Loughran allowed four earned runs on five hits and struck out five. Ashley Marshall stepped in for the last four and two-thirds to hold Wesleyan to two runs and two hits. Marshall registered 10 more strikeouts to bring her total to 20 for the day.
Plattsburgh plays Bowdoin and RPI tomorrow at 3 and 7 p.m. respectively.
