CLERMONT, Fla. - The Plattsburgh State softball team (1-2) earned its first win of the 2012 season, defeating the University of Rochester 3-0 Monday morning.
Brittany Marshall led off the game with a single, stole second and advanced to third on a ground out. Michelle Iannone reached base on a fielder's choice, allowing Marshall to come home and give Plattsburgh a 1-0 lead.
The Cardinals scored two more runs in the second after Erin Florkiewicz stole home and Marshall crossed the plate on an error by the Rochester shortstop.
Marshall finished the day going 2-for-4 while Sam Capobianco accounted for the only other Plattsburgh hit. The Cardinal rookie also swiped three bases.
Ashley Marshall returned to form in the circle, tossing a two-hitter and striking out 12 in the win.
The Cardinals continue play Tuesday with games against Messiah and Hood at 3 and 5 p.m. respectively.
