Boxscore and Play-by-Play

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – A back and forth game between the Plattsburgh State women’s basketball team (7-12, 4-9 SUNYAC) and Buffalo State (17-2, 10-2 SUNYAC) in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action went in favor of the visitors 65-58 at Memorial Hall Friday.

A tight first half that saw just three lead changes, ended with the Bengals taking the lead going into the break on a Kala Crawford three-pointer with 23 seconds left.

The second half was more of the same as the Bengals scored the first five points of the half. The Cardinals started to fight back and tied the game when Kathleen Payne scored two free throws with 13:53 remaining.

The Bengals took the lead for good 20 seconds later and jumped out to an 11 point lead on a couple of free-throw shots by Divine Sebuharara.  The Cardinals fought to keep the game close, but a balanced Bengal offense was making sure the home team kept their distance.

Payne scored 23 points and added 11 rebounds for a double-double in the loss. Brittany Marshall went 4-for-5 from three point range as she notched 17 points and Brooke Reifinger grabbed seven rebounds.

The Cardinals shot 32.8 percent from the field and 47.1 percent from outside the arc. The Bengals shot 34.4 percent from the field.

The Bengals were led by five different players who all hit double-digit scoring. Crawford had 13 points, Staci McElroy and
Bianca Smiley added 12 points each. Barb Kiliszek scored 11 points and Sebuharara notched 10 points to round out the Bengal scoring.

The Cardinals are back in SUNYAC action tomorrow at Memorial Hall when Fredonia State are the visitors. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
