PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Division III Week begins today, Monday, April 6, as NCAA Division III institutions across the country celebrate the unique student‑athlete experience. Throughout the week, we will be highlighting student‑athletes on social media, giving them a platform to share what it means to compete at the Division III level by responding to questions posed to participants.
Today, we will hear from
Rosie Sculco, a junior guard on the women's basketball team, as she shares her answers to the prompts below.
What's your favorite part about being a Division III student-athlete?
"My favorite part is the work ethic you're able to develop. Nothing is handed to you at this level, but the Division III community is always behind you. It is a different level of accountability, but working so hard always shines through in your career."
What's the toughest part about balancing your sport, academics, and social life, and how do you handle it?
"The toughest part about balancing my sport, academics, and social life is the mental toughness and focus. I handle it by staying organized, preparing in advance, using my resources for help, and taking action."
What values has Division III built into you?
"Division III has built many values in me. The most important one that I have gained and kept close to me since coming here is discipline. To value discipline is when you start taking control of your own life and happiness, and Division III has taught me that."
What made you choose the Division III path over other options?
"I chose the Division III path to continue playing competitively. There is nothing like being an athlete and being a part of something, and after this, it is all over. I worked hard to get an opportunity at the next level, and to me, that is a privilege I wanted to take advantage of."
How do you take pride in representing SUNY Plattsburgh?
"I take pride in representing Plattsburgh by showing up for my team every day. Off-season and in-season, showing up is a reflection of my dedication and passion for Plattsburgh athletics."
What is one moment as a student-athlete at Plattsburgh State that you'll never forget?
"Losing in the semi-finals to New Paltz, we will be back for one more run."
In three words, how would you describe your student-athlete experience?
"Driven, Dedicated, Inspiring."
