PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men’s soccer team tallied all four of its goals in the first half, cruising to a 4-0 victory over the New Paltz Hawks in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup Friday afternoon at the Field House Soccer Complex.

The Cardinals (12-1-0, 3-1-0 SUNYAC) wasted no time getting on the board as team-leading scorer Matt Hamilton buried a free kick from the top of the box to give Plattsburgh State a 1-0 lead at the 7:32 mark.

Plattsburgh State put the game out of reach late in the first half, rattling off three goals in a span of 6:12. Freshman Ethan Votraw found the back of the net in the 31st minute with a header shot off a throw-in by Steve Zacharczyk, putting the Cardinals up by two. Less than two minutes later, Hamilton picked up his second of the day and seventh of the year when he deflected a shot to the right of New Paltz goalkeeper Steven Domino.

Zacharczyk rounded out the scoring at 36:12 as his header off Nick Pourakis’ free kick found its way past Domino, giving the Cardinals a four-goal cushion at halftime.

Plattsburgh held an 11-2 advantage in shots on goal in the first half and finished the day with a 16-9 edge. The Hawks (5-6-1, 1-4-0 SUNYAC) drew four corner kicks, while the Cardinals took two.

Despite suffering the loss, Domino recorded six saves for New Paltz. His most impressive save came in the 69th minute when Domino was able to get a glove on a blast from Zacharczyk, keeping Plattsburgh at bay in the second half.

Zack Kruizenga got the start for the Cardinals, making one save to earn his second win. Freshman John Toper started the second half and had two saves in 36:26. Mitchell Jordon stepped in the net for the final 8:34 and did not face a shot.
