Box Score
FREDONIA, N.Y. – Jason Baker’s second-half goal is all the Cardinals would need as the Plattsburgh State men’s soccer team defeated Fredonia State, 1-0, in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game Friday afternoon.

The win marks the fourth-straight for Plattsburgh (14-1-0, 5-1-0 SUNYAC) and the ninth shutout of the season. With three conference games left to play, the Cardinals move into a first-place tie with Brockport in the SUNYAC standings.

The two teams played to a scoreless first half, while the Cardinals held an 8-5 edge in shots through the first 45 minutes.

After a failed header off a corner kick, a loose ball found its way to Baker who was able to find the back of the net at 53:01 to give Plattsburgh State the one-goal lead. Joe Aratari was credited with his team-leading sixth assist on the game-winning goal.

Fredonia State (4-11-0, 3-3-0 SUNYAC) took four corner kicks, while Plattsburgh had three. The Cardinals finished with a 19-10 advantage in shots.

The Cardinals, who have been riddled with injuries as of late, saw the return of freshman midfielder Fabian Chaparro in Friday’s contest. Chaparro has been out of action due to injury since Sept. 22. The Plattsburgh rookie registered two shots on goal in his return to the field.

Zack Kruizenga made his third-straight start in goal for Plattsburgh. Kruizenga had two saves to improve to 4-0-0 on the year. Blue Devils keeper Mike Schreiner had an outstanding afternoon despite the loss, allowing one goal and making 10 stops.

Plattsburgh wraps up its final road trip of the regular season tomorrow with a 1 p.m. matchup at Buffalo State.
