PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State softball team swept a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) doubleheader against Oswego State to wrap-up the regular season. The Cardinals took game one, 1-0, in extra innings before a 3-0 win in game two on a day in which the team recognized seniors Erin Jamieson and Nicole Diemer.
In the bottom of the ninth inning in game one, Erin Jamieson singled to left field before advancing to second on a wild pitch. Nikki Diemer stepped to the plate, driving a single through the left side to bring home Jamieson and end the game in walk-off fashion for the Cardinals.
Ashley Marshall (16-4) allowed just three hits in nine innings of work and struck out 15 batters. On the opposing side, Jessica Palmitesso (4-14) gave up one run on seven hits and struck out eight.
Brianna Clarke went 2-for-4 in game two with two RBI to help Plattsburgh to a 3-0 win over the Lakers.
Heather Loughran improved to 14-2 with a complete-game shutout. Loughran allowed seven hits and struck out four.
Diemer finished the afternoon going 4-for-7 with an RBI and two runs scored. Allison Smiddy picked up three hits on the day.
The Cardinals finish the regular season 30-6 overall and 14-4 in the SUNYAC. Plattsburgh will travel to SUNY Cortland next week as the no. 2 seed for the conference tournament.
