Cardinals Take Two at Potsdam to Open SUNYAC Play

POTSDAM, N.Y.
  – The Plattsburgh State softball team opened its State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) schedule with two wins against SUNY Potsdam.  

In game one, the Cardinals shutout the Bears, 2-0.  Ashley Marshall improved to 8-2, tossing seven shutout innings.  Marshall allowed five hits and struck out 10.

The Cardinals scored both their runs in the fifth inning.  Erin Jamieson doubled down the left field line to bring Dana Mandery home.  Jamieson later scored on a single by Allison Smiddy, giving the Cardinals all the offense they would need.

In game two, the Bears took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an unearned run.

The Cardinals rallied for two runs in the fourth inning.  Katie McNally drove home Plattsburgh’s with an RBI triple, scoring Kayla Rabideau.  In the next at bat, McNally scored on a wild pitch.

Starting pitcher Heather Loughran improved her record to 8-0, allowing six hits and striking out eight in 5 1-3 innings.  Ashley Marshall gave up one hit in the final 1 2-3 innings to record her fourth save.

The Cardinals move to 16-2 on the season, 2-0 in conference play.  The Bears drop to 6-8 overall, 0-2 in the SUNYAC.

Plattsburgh looks to open its home schedule on Wednesday, April 6 with a doubleheader against Saint Lawrence.  First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
