PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.
– The Plattsburgh State softball team swept both ends of a non-conference doubleheader against St. Lawrence University, taking game one, 7-0, and following with an 8-4 win in game two.  The nationally-ranked no. 15 Cardinals improve to 28-4 on the year, while the Saints drop to 8-16.

Ashley Marshall was dominant again in game one, tossing a two-hit shutout.  Marshall did not issue a walk and fanned 12 to improve to 15-3.

Megan Price went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run in the sixth inning.  Allison Smiddy also homered for the Cardinals, drilling a two-run home run to left field in the fourth.

Erin Florkiewicz also drove home a run in the fourth on a double to left center.

Rebecca Allen and Khalshia White accounted for the Saints’ two hits off of Marshall.

Rachel Duffany suffered the loss for St. Lawrence, allowing seven runs on eight hits in six innings of work.

In game two, Brianna Clarke drove home Nikki Diemer before Katie McNally smacked a two-run home run to center field to give the Cardinals an early 3-0 lead in the first.

Plattsburgh plated two more runs in the second on RBI singles from Diemer and Clarke.

The Cardinals crossed the plate three more times in the fourth to stretch their lead to 8-1.

Heather Loughran appeared to be in complete control before Caroline Kieltyka and Khalshia White hit back-to-back two-out home runs in the top of the seventh to cut the Cardinals’ lead to 8-4.

Loughran settled down to retire the final out to improve her record to 13-1.  She finished the afternoon surrendering four runs, three of which were earned on nine hits.  Loughran issued three walks while striking out seven.

Elizabeth McGinley was in the circle for the first two innings for the Saints and received the loss after allowing five runs on five hits.  Meg Goodemote threw the final five innings, giving up two earned runs on five hits.

Kieltyka was 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Allen and White drove home the other two Saints’ runs.

Clarke went 3-for-4 in game two with three runs batted in, while McNally finished 3-for-3 with two RBI.

The Cardinals will be gearing up for the final weekend of the regular season, beginning with a conference doubleheader against nationally ranked no. 12 SUNY Cortland.  First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Cardinal Park.
