GENESEO, N.Y.
– The nationally ranked No. 15 Plattsburgh State softball team split a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) doubleheader at Geneseo Saturday.  The Cardinals dropped game one, 2-1, before rebounding with a 2-1 win in game two.

In game one, Ashley Marshall suffered the tough-luck loss after allowing just two runs on five hits and striking out 10 Blue Knights.

Senior Janine Montera shined in the circle for Geneseo, holding Plattsburgh to one run on four hits in seven innings.

Dana Mandery drove home the Cardinals’ lone run of the game in the fourth inning when she reached on a fielder’s choice, allowing Marshall to cross the plate.

The Cardinals (26-4, 12-2 SUNYAC) got a great outing from Heather Loughran in game two.  Loughran tossed a complete game shutout, allowing five hits and fanning seven to improve to 12-1 on the year.

The Blue Knights (14-14, 5-7 SUNYAC) also sent Montera out for game two, but this she suffered the loss.  Montera gave up two runs, one of which was earned, on six hits.  She also struck out seven batters.

Plattsburgh plated both of their runs in the third inning.  Brianna Clarke singled to bring home Erin Jamieson for the Cardinals’ first run of the game.  Clarke advanced to second on a passed ball before scoring on a Katie McNally single.

The Cardinals return home Monday, April 25 for a non-conference doubleheader against St. Lawrence University.  First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Cardinal Park.
