SCHENECTADY, N.Y. —
The No. 20-ranked Plattsburgh State softball team picked up wins 13 and 14 and extended its winning streak to four games with 1-0 and 10-4 wins in a doubleheader against Union College Saturday.

The teams managed to scrounge up just four hits apiece in game one, where runs came at a premium. In the fifth inning, Plattsburgh broke through when Dana Mandery, who reached on a Union error, was singled in by Erin Jamieson, who had two of the Cardinals' four hits. It was the only run of the game as the Cardinals hung on for the win.

Starting pitcher Ashley Marshall improved her record to 7-2, going the distance while striking out seven, walking three and surrendering four hits. Amanda Blake allowed just the one unearned run, also scattering four hits and three walks in the loss for Union.

In game two, the Plattsburgh offense exploded for 10 runs and 15 hits, including five runs on four hits in the top of the seventh inning to secure a 10-4 win.

Union came back from a 5-0 deficit with one run in the fifth inning and three in the sixth to cut the Cardinal lead to 5-4. But Plattsburgh piled on the runs in the seventh. Mandery walked with the bases loaded to bring a run home. Diana Garces then grounded into a fielder's choice that also brought in a run. Jamieson doubled in Mandery from second and Nicole Diemer capped the inning with a two-RBI double.

Diemer and Erin Florkiewicz each had three hits to lead the Cardinals. Diemer's nine multiple-hit games are most on the team. Garces finished the game with a team-high three RBIs. Diemer, Mandery and Katie McNally each had two.

Heather Loughran picked up the win for Plattsburgh, allowing four runs in 5 2-3 innings. Marshall picked up the save with 1 1-3 scoreless innings. Alyssa Wolejko was hit with the loss for the Dutchwomen, giving up 10 hits and five runs in 4 1-3 innings.

Union fell to 3-11 on the season after getting swept. With the wins, Plattsburgh jumps to 14-2, all in non-conference games. The Cardinals open up their State University of New York Athletic Conference schedule with a doubleheader against SUNY Potsdam Sunday beginning at 1 p.m.
