Softball Completes 12-2 Florida Trip

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Plattsburgh State softball team wrapped up its trip to Florida, going 3-1 over the last two days at the National Training Center Spring Games and will return home with a 12-2 record overall.

Plattsburgh 7, Bowdoin 6


The Cardinals defeated Bowdoin, 7-6, in their first game on Friday.  Brianna Clarke sparked the offense with two hits and four RBI.  Clarke drove in three runs on sacrifice fly balls and also picked up an RBI triple.

Heather Loughran was on the mound for the win, striking out six.

Ithaca 5, Plattsburgh 4

Errors plagued the Cardinals in Friday’s second game, as Plattsburgh dropped its second game of the season against nationally ranked No. 10 Ithaca College.

The Cardinals took a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning.  With the bases loaded, the Blue Bombers hit a line drive to center field that hit off of Erin Jamieson’s glove, allowing three runs to score and giving Ithaca the walk-off win.

Plattsburgh committed five errors against the Blue Bombers.  Despite allowing just one earned run, Ashley Marshall suffered the loss for the Cardinals.

Plattsburgh 12, St. Scholastica 0


Plattsburgh scored nine runs in the fourth inning en route to a 12-0 shutout against St. Scholastica which was ended in the fifth due to the run rule.

Nicole Diemer stole home in the first inning to generate the Cardinals’ first run.  Brianne Clarke also crossed the plate in the inning on a passed ball.

Plattsburgh got another unearned run in the second inning when Erin Jamieson reached on an error by the Saints second baseman, allowing Diane Garces to score.

Diemer and Allison Smiddy each drove home two runs in the fourth inning.  In addition to the two RBI, Diemer finished the game going 2-for-4 with two runs scored.  Garces went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI.

Ashley Marshall fanned 10 in the win, allowing just two hits to complete the shutout.

Plattsburgh 4, Lawrence 2


Lawrence took a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning, but the Cardinals tied the game in the sixth when Allison Smiddy drove home Erin Jamieson.  

Plattsburgh put two more runs on the board in the top of the seventh to secure the win.

Heather Loughran earned the win, striking out six and issuing one walk.

The Cardinals return to action on Thursday, Mar. 24 for a doubleheader at Emerson College.
