CLERMONT, Fla. – The Plattsburgh State softball team picked up four more wins over the last two days at the National Training Center Spring Games. On Wednesday, the Cardinals shutout both the University of Wisconsin-Stout, 2-0, and Philadelphia Biblical University, 14-0, followed by two more victories on Thursday with a 3-1 win over Babson and a 7-2 win over Westfield State.
Ashley Marshall and Heather Loughran each earned two wins, allowing just three runs over the four game span.
Plattsburgh 2, University of Wis.-Stout 0
Megan Price drove home the Cardinals’ first run on a line drive down the third base line in the first inning. Brianna Clarke knocked in the second Plattsburgh run with an RBI double in the fifth.
Marshall pitched a two-hit shutout with no walks and struck out 14 in her fourth win for the Cardinals.
Plattsburgh 14, Philadelphia Biblical 0
The Cardinal offense exploded in Wednesday’s second game, scoring four runs in the third inning, six in the fourth and four more in the fifth.
Loughran threw her second career no-hitter, striking out 10 batters in five innings.
Dana Mandery had the only extra base hit, a triple, while the Cardinals added 12 singles.
Plattsburgh 3, Babson 1
Marshall took the mound for Plattsburgh against Babson, giving up six hits and two walks while recording six strikeouts.
Nicole Diemer was responsible for two of the Cardinals’ five hits, including an RBI double in the third inning.
Katie McNally and Erin Jamieson drove home a run apiece to lift Plattsburgh to its eighth victory.
Plattsburgh 7, Westfield St. 2
Loughran gave the Cardinals another strong start as she gave up six hits, two runs and struck out four.
The Cardinals, who improve to 9-1, produced 13 hits. Diemer completed a good day at the plate, leading the team with three RBI. Dana Mandery added two RBI and Jamieson also drove in a run.
Plattsburgh will play two more games today against Bowdoin at 1:30 p.m. and Ithaca College at 3:30 p.m.
