WESTWEGO, La. - Despite a 21-point display from Brittany Marshall, the Plattsburgh State women’s basketball team dropped a 57-67 decision to Keene State in the Big Easy Challenge.
Keene blew the game open at the end of the first half going on a 9-0 run to lead 35-21 at the break.
The Owls out-rebounded the Cardinals 42-25, especially dominating the defensive glass nabbing 29 rebounds.
Marshall scored her 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting and also added five assists, while Brooke Reifinger poured in 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting including 3-for-3 from three-point range. Kerri Salisbury scored all of her 10 points in the first half to try and keep the Cardinals close.
Courtney Cirillo notched a double-double, 20 points and 13 rebounds, to lead the Owls to victory. Cirillo gained help from Siobhan Carnell and Sara Laudano, both of whom reached double figures in points. Carnell scored 15 points, going 5-for-9 from the field and Laudano added 13 points on 5-for-17 shooting.
The Cardinals endured a sluggish first half, shooting 29.2 percent from the field, while the Owls hit 45.7 percent. The Cardinals improved in the second half, hitting 52.2 percent of their field goals.
The Cardinals return to action Tuesday January 10 when they host Oneonta State in conference action. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
