OSWEGO, N.Y. - The Plattsburgh State women's basketball team wrapped up a tough weekend of State University of New York Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon, suffering a 63-53 loss at Oswego.
Kathleen Payne led Plattsburgh (1-3, 0-2 SUNYAC) with 15 points. Payne went 5-for-11 from the field, 3-4 from three-point territory and 2-for-4 from the charity stripe. Freshman Brittany Marshall added 13 points in 32 minutes off the bench. Catherine Cassidy pulled down a team-high nine rebounds and picked up three assists.
Meagan Stover paced Oswego (5-1, 0-2 SUNYAC) with 20 points. Stover hit 7-of-13 shots from the field, finished a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line and had five steals. Kayla Payne hit 9-of-10 of free throw attempts and finished with 16 points and a team-best seven boards.
At 11:44 of the first half, Lindsay Larivee's layup brought the Cardinals within one as the Lakers led, 13-12. Oswego rattled off 16 points in the next six muntes of play to take a 17 points lead - its largest lead of the afternoon.
The Cardinals were able to trim the deficit to 10 at the half in the final 4:12 of the first half but were unable to overcome the Lakers in the second half as each side scored 32 points a piece.
Plattsburgh will look to turn things around Tuesday as the Cardinals travel to SUNY New Paltz for a conference game set for 6 p.m.
