Softball Splits on Second Day at SUNYAC Tournament

Cardinals defeat Oneonta, blanked by Cortland

Erin Jamieson was perfect at the plate in the win vs. Oneonta

CORTLAND, N.Y.--The Plattsburgh State softball team split two games on Day 2 of the State University of New York Athletic Conference Tournament at Red Dragon Field, defeating Oneonta State 7-4 before losing to host and nationally ranked Cortland 8-0 in five innings on Friday.

The second-seeded Cardinals (24-15) remain alive in the double-elimination tournament and will play Brockport, a squad they have already beaten at this championship, at 11 a.m. Saturday for the right to play Cortland for the SUNYAC title.

In the three-run win against the Red Dragons (21-16), the Cardinals used the long ball en route to a five-run fourth inning to turn a 3-2 deficit into a 7-3 advantage. Erin Florkiewicz slammed a two-run blast to right field and Erin Jamieson hit a shot with two runners on base over the left-field fence. Jamieson finished the game with three hits.

Ashley Marshall (18-5) scattered nine hits and allowed only one earned run for the win. She walked one and struck out seven.

Jillian Serraro went 4-for-4 with an RBI for the Red Dragons (21-16), who led 2-0 in the first inning before Plattsburgh scored twice in the top of the second.

Danielle Gjergji and Amy Woo had the only Plattsburgh hits in the loss to Cortland.

The Red Dragons (37-6) scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back. Emily Ringen led the way with three hits, followed by Jessica Harman with two and Lorraine Stoddard with two hits and three RBI.
