McNally Leads Cardinals to Victory in Game One

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Sophomore designated player Katie McNally stepped to the plate in the ninth inning of the Plattsburgh State softball team's first game against Geneseo with one out on the board, a runner on first and the scored tied, 2-2. Having hit her first collegiate home run over the center field fence earlier in the fifth inning to place the Cardinals ahead, 2-1, McNally came up big once again for the team and rocked her first collegiate triple down the right field line to score the Corinne Gioia from first base for the game-winning run.

Plattsburgh won game one, 3-2, but later fell in game two, 9-3. The Cardinals are now 17-10 for the season and 6-3 in the State University of New York Athletic Conference. Geneseo stands at 19-13 overall, 7-7 in conference play.

McNally went 3-for-4 at the plate during the first game, adding two runs batted in and a run to the mix. Ashley Marshall (12-3) earned the win the circle, striking out nine, allowing eight hits and giving up one earned run.

In game two, Heather Loughran (4-4) suffered the loss for the Cardinals. Loughran pitched 4.1 innings, struck out five and allowed five earned runs before being relieved by Tanya Fedyshyn. Fedyshyn commanded the circle for 0.2 innings and allowed two earned runs before Marshall took back over to close out the contest.

Mary Bostwick earned the win for the Blue Knights, pitching the whole game, striking out nine and allowed two earned runs. Bostwick also led her team in batting, going 3-for-3 at the plate with a run and a RBI.

Geneseo scored two runs in the third, four in the fifth, two in the sixth and added a final run to its tally in the seventh.

Plattsburgh was the first to score in the second inning when Erin Florkiewicz singled to the shortstop and drove Amy Woo in from third. Woo had tripled down the right field line during the at-bat before Florkiewicz.

The Cards second run came in the in the third when Erin Jamieson grounded out the shortstop and Diana Garces snuck into home from third. The team then notched its third and final run in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a triple down the left field line by Ashley Napear that scored Nicole Diemer.

Plattsburgh also celebrated Senior Day before the first game and honored four-year members Woo, Napear, Danielle Gjergji, Nicole Pomponio and Nicole McKee.
