CLERMONT, Fla. - Freshman hurler Ashley Marshall improved to 5-0 with a 6-3 win over Frostburg State, while the Plattsburgh State softball split the day and fell to Berry, 5-2, later on in the evening. The Cardinals now stand at 7-3 for the season.
Marshall tossed six innings and racked up three strikeouts, four walks and allowed five hits. Tanya Fedyshyn closed out the game and did not giving up any runs in the seventh.
Amy Woo led the Cardinals with two hits and two runs batted in against Frostburg. Ashley Napear went 2-for-3 at the plate with a single and a double, knocking in one RBI. Erin Florkiewicz went 3-for-4 with two singles, a double and two RBIs. Diana Garces laid down a squeeze bunt in the sixth to drive another run across the plate for the team.
Against Berry, Heather Loughran threw a complete game and suffered the loss after sitting down four batters, walking two and giving up eight hits.
The Cardinals only posted four hits on the board and one earned run. Danielle Gjergji picked up the RBI when she bunted in the sixth and gave Woo a chance to score from third. Nicole Diemer smashed the only extra base hit for Plattsburgh during the game, a double during the first inning, while Corinne Gioia and Erin Jamieson each hit a single. Gioia's hit came in the fifth inning and Jamieson in the sixth.
Plattsburgh takes on Western Connecticut and Rhode Island College tomorrow as it continues on at the NTC Dot Richardson Tournament.
