CLERMONT, Fla. - After waiting through a five and a half hour delay before its first game finally began, the Plattsburgh State softball team opened its 2010 campaign with two shutouts at the NTC Dot Richardson Tournament. Under the leadership of first-year head coach Stephanie Zweig, the Cardinals topped New England College 9-0 in five innings and followed up with a 2-0 win over Babson.
Freshman Ashley Marshall pitched the first game for Plattsburgh, while sophomore Heather Loughran started the second. Sophomore Tanya Fedyshyn picked up a save in the second game, as well, and Erin Florkiewicz sat behind the plate for both contests.
"We had contributions all around the board from our hitters and our defense put forth a solid effort," commented Zweig.
The Cardinals take on Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham and Western New England during day two of the trip.
