Cardinal Women Hang Tough in Loss to Cortland

CORTLAND, N.Y. - They played hard for all 40 minutes that they were out on the hardwood, but the Plattsburgh State women's basketball team fell to the hosting Cortland Red Dragons, 49-89. The loss places the Cardinals at 2-19 for the year, 0-15 in the State University of New York Athletic Conference. Cortland stands alone atop the SUNYAC with a 14-1 conference record, 19-3 overall.

Caitlin O'Keefe and Molly Harte led the scoring charge for Plattsburgh, sinking nine points each. O'Keefe, Harte, Taylor Amarando and Casey Clark pulled down five boards apiece. Catherine Cassidy and Lindsey Larivee dished out three assists and Larivee nabbed three steals, as well.

For Cortland, Micki Volpini sank an impressive 29 points and racked up seven steals. Jessica Laing contributed 20 points and recorded 15 rebounds for a double-double. Allyson Biordi added 10 points and five assists to the mix.

Plattsburgh will return home and take on the Potsdam Bears next Tuesday. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
