OSWEGO, N.Y. - The Plattsburgh State women's basketball team held the lead for the majority of the first half during its game against State University of New York Athletic Conference foe Oswego, but faltered in the second and fell to the Lakers, 61-65.
Plattsburgh drops to 2-18 for the season, 0-14 in SUNYAC play. Meanwhile, Oswego is now even with a 10-10 overall record and has a winning record in conference play, 7-6.
The Cardinals scored the first five points of the game unanswered.
Stephanie McCoy started the game off with a layup after receiving the ball from
Taylor Amarando. Amarando hit another layup and sank a free-throw to give the Cards a solid lead. Amarando was fouled shooting by Oswego's Rachel Kohrs after
Catherine Cassidy stole the ball from the Lakers directly after Amarando sank her first layup.
Cassidy would help Plattsburgh pull ahead by a game-high six points (21-15) with 8:56 left in the first when she sank a rainbow from behind the arc.
Oswego would take the lead with 4:24 left to go before halftime. Colleen McCready grabbed a board when Cassidy missed a three and capitalized with a layup, giving the Lakers a 23-21 advantage over the Cardinals. Oswego would hold on to the lead for the rest of the contest.
Amarando had a huge night for the Cardinals, leading the team with 23 points. Cassidy was second on the team with 10 points and dished out a game-high five assists.
Casey Clark sank nine points and pulled down nine boards, just missing a double-double.
For Oswego, Traci Bacon posted 18 on the scoreboard and Kayla Ryan sank 16. McCready led the Lakers with nine rebounds and was third in scoring with nine points.
Plattsburgh wraps up its weekend road trip at Cortland tomorrow at 2 p.m.
