Oneonta Takes Advantage of Cardinal Turnovers

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.--Taylor Amarando and Nora Campbell each posted a double-double on Saturday afternoon, but that wasn't enough as the Plattsburgh State women's basketball lost at the hands of visiting Oneonta State, 71-59, in State University of New York Athletic Conference action at Memorial Hall. The victorious Red Dragons remain unbeaten at 4-0 overall, including 2-0 in the SUNYAC. The Cardinals fall to 2-4 and 0-2.

Amarando had 15 points and 15 rebounds to move up on both school's all-time lists. The senior now has 852 points for eighth place, passing Linda Feinman who had 851 from 1978-81, and 506 rebounds to supplant Nicky Viti (500 from 1998 to 2002) for ninth. Campbell led all scorers with 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting and grabbed 12 rebounds, to go along with three blocked shots.

Madison Slagle led a balanced Oneonta scoring attack with 15 points, followed by Rebecca Bucci with 14, Grace Schilling had 13 and Samantha Szkotak, 12.  Szkotak also hauled down 12 rebounds--all on the defensive end.

Campbell's jumper on the first play of the game gave the Cardinals their only lead before Oneonta eventually went on a 10-0 run during a span of 2 minutes and 52 seconds to take control, 17-6.

In the second half, Plattsburgh couldn't get closer than six points. The Red Dragons took advantage of 18 Cardinal turnovers that resulted in 26 points.
