NEW YORK--Taylor Amarando led all players with 22 points and 10 rebounds to help the Plattsburgh State women's basketball team to a 78-64 victory Saturday over SUNY Purchase in the third-place game at the New York University Tip-Tff Tournament. The Cardinals improve to 2-1 on the season while Purchase dips to 1-2.
Plattsburgh also got contributions from Ashley Gyscek, with 16 points, nine rebounds, five assists and three steals; and Nora Campbell with 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting, four rebounds, two assists and three blocked shots.
Rachel Perrone led Purchase with 16 points and eight rebounds, followed by MaryAlice Palmer with 14 points, Jess Lindsay had 11 and Alyssa Guido, 10.
After trailing by 5 in the opening minutes of the game, Plattsburgh took the lead for good on a pair of free throws by Amarando at the 15:14 mark of the first half. The Cardinals led 42-35 at the intermission.
