Middlebury, Vt. - In their first game back after the holiday break, the Plattsburgh State women's basketball team shot a solid 73.3% (11-15) from the free-throw line, but could not match Middlebury's production from the rest of the field and fell to the Panthers, 52-62. The loss drops the Cardinals to 2-6 for the season, while Middlebury rises to 5-3 overall.
After finishing the first half down, 27-29, Plattsburgh managed to hold a slight lead for much of the second. Middlebury's Leah Kepping tied the game at 48 with 7:34 remaining, converting a four-point play with a three and a free throw. The Panthers went on to score 14 of the game's final 18 points to secure the win.
Taylor Amarando recorded a double-double for the Cardinals, racking up 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Lindsey Larivee followed with 14 points and two steal. Catherine Cassidy led the night with six assists.
Kepping sank 21 points and topped the Panthers with five assists. Brittany Perfetti sank 16 points and Maddie Moreau recorded 10. Stephany Surrette and Kaitlyn Fallon pulled down seven boards apiece. Surrette also made two blocks during the contest.
The Cardinals travel across the state this week to take on Buffalo State on Friday at 6 p.m. and Fredonia on Saturday at 2 p.m.
