CANTON, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's cross country team had a chance to preview the Mideast Region course at St. Lawrence in the Hoffmann Invitational, where the team placed eighth with 243 points.
In the team standings, the Cardinals finished ahead of ninth-place Paul Smith's (272 pts), 10th-place Canton (298 pts), and 11th-place Potsdam (298 pts). Queen's University finished in first with 30 points, followed by Middlebury in second (51 pts), host St. Lawrence in third (66 pts), Le Moyne in fourth (112 pts), Clarkson in fifth (148 pts), Norwich in sixth (202 pts), and University of Ottawa in seventh (204 pts)
The Cardinals' top finisher was junior
Matthias Lauvau (Rye, N.Y. / Rye Neck), coming in 91st with a time of 29:25.5, a new personal and course-best. Right behind him was junior
Zander Brown (Wappingers Falls, N.Y. / Roy C. Ketcham) in 92nd with a 29:26.8 mark, which was his best mark at the Ronald C. Hoffmann Cross Country Course.
The top five was rounded out by junior
Nate Alexander (Marcellus, N.Y. / Marcellus), first-year
Jackson Morse (Niskayuna, N.Y. / Niskayuna), and senior
Jack Natali Jr. (Clayton, N.Y. / Thousand Islands). Alexander recorded a new course-best with a time of 29:34.3 (98th), Morse came in at 29:38.5 (100th) in his first outing on the Ronald C. Hoffmann Cross Country Course, and Natali Jr. finished at 29:42.3 (102nd), a course-best for the senior.
Sophomore
Brody Serfass (Endwell, N.Y. / Maine Endwell) and
Bryton Mandigo closed out the top seven with times of 29:43.0 (103rd) and 30:33.3 (115th), respectively, as both recorded new personal bests.
Other performers of note include first-year
Michael Ayala (New Paltz, N.Y. / New Paltz), with a new personal best time of 30:34.1.
The Cardinals are back in action in two weeks when the team travels to Keene, N.H., for the Keene State Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 4.
